How I work
I fully believe in the efficacy of the therapeutic relationship to create change in a person's life.
With warmth, empathy and zero judgement, we can build a relationship in which we can collaboratively work through what has brought you to counselling. Together we build a space that feels safe enough to bring whatever thoughts, behaviours or feelings are being problematic for you. The therapeutic relationship is one in which you are held with compassion and acceptance, and so can have increased compassion and acceptance for yourself. This is slowly transformative.
A humanistic approach includes values such as understanding that you have autonomy as your own person, you are fundamentally 'good', and that you have a natural inclination towards emotional healing and growth.
'Integrative' means that I see you as a whole person, and I am not a purist: my work is rooted both in Person-Centred theory (I support you, the client to bring what you need to), and Psychodynamic theory (we look at the roots rather than present-day fixes).
I have a deep interest in the Jungian unconscious, also in modes of working such as Transactional Analysis and Internal Family Systems. I will at times offer bits of psycho-education that can empower you to greater understanding of yourself in your journey of change.

I am a UKCP accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. My experience includes working with adults with anxiety, depression, childhood trauma and addiction at The Swan Project in Bristol. More broadly I have extensive experience with young people in alternative provision, and in the arts. I value meeting the uniqueness of the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.
